In 2007 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued findings that suggest that in the next 90 years 145 million people will be permanently displaced by the effects of global climate change. This does not include people that will be displaced by seismic events, conflicts or economic development. This number of climate refugees that will be displaced in the next millennia is equal to the combined populations of the seventeen largest cities in the world that exist today.
Climate change displacement is a self-perpetuating phenomena. It is also a design problem.
